Health Educators

Hello from Health Educators Kayla and Jana!

We wanted to reach out and introduce/reintroduce ourselves as Snohomish County Health Department’s new Health Educators. The purpose of our jobs is to attend community events, share resources, collaborate with organizations and individuals, and provide accurate and culturally inclusive health information on a wide variety of topics. We are looking to build more relationships within our county by reaching out and seeing what the needs in the community are. With the support of our Prevention Services team, here are some of the presentations that we offer:

  • Professional Careers in Public Health
  • STD Awareness and Prevention
  • Youth Mental Health and Coping Strategies
  • Youth Substance Prevention and Education Training (vaping, tobacco and cannabis)
    • Youth Substance Use Prevention Training Request Form
  • Opioid Overdose Prevention and Narcan (Naloxone) Training
    • Narcan Training Requests for Organizations - Snohomish Overdose Prevention
  • Community Preparedness for Natural Emergencies
  • Wildfire Smoke Protection and Air Pollution

We are flexible to doing presentations virtually or in-person and creating additional educational materials (i.e., posters, brochures, zines, etc.) on these topics. If you are interested in a health topic/issue not listed above, please feel free to email us with community requests. We can be reached at kayla.obryan@co.snohomish.wa.us and jana.rafi@co.snohomish.wa.us. We look forward to connecting with you!

ABCD

Access to Baby and Child Dentistry (ABCD) Certification Training Registration

May 4, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

ABCD works to improve oral health for Medicaid-insured children under 6 in Washington by connecting families to ABCD-trained and certified dental providers in their communities. ABCD Certification Training is an opportunity to learn about preventive oral health for infants, toddlers, and young children with Dr. Paul Kahlon, ABCD Champion from Snohomish County. ABCD Certification allows dental providers to receive enhanced Medicaid reimbursement. Training is free, but registration is required.

Who should attend?
In addition to dental providers, chairside, billing, and front office staff are strongly encouraged to attend the training. An understanding of and commitment to ABCD from the entire staff will increase opportunities to serve young children and their families!

CDE: The University of Washington School of Dentistry offers 3 hours of continuing dental education credits to dentists and registered dental hygienists (RDH).  There is no charge for CDE credits.

Note: Providers must have an NPI and be registered as a billing provider in ProviderOne to bill Medicaid and receive enhanced ABCD reimbursement.
