[ARCHIVED] New Overdose Prevention Resource Guide Hits the Streets in Snohomish County

SNOHOMISH COUNTY, Wash. – Attendees at Saturday’s Overdose Prevention Night with the Everett AquaSox were among the first in Snohomish County to receive copies of the new Overdose Prevention Resource Guide. The guide features articles centered around a new “10 Things to Know About Opioids” campaign developed by members of the Snohomish County Opioid Response “MAC” Group.

It contains information on how to connect with opioid or overdose related resources; crisis support and hotlines; counseling and recovery groups; treatment options, programs and providers; housing support; outreach services for veterans; and efforts geared toward reaching young people.

There’s practical advice on securing pain medications so they don’t wind up in the wrong hands, and options for safely disposing of prescription drugs when they are no longer needed. The guide also explains how addiction affects people, how best to talk with those in your life who are at risk, and where to obtain naloxone—a life-saving opioid overdose reversal medication.

This guide was paid for by the Snohomish Health District with grant funding received from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, through the Washington State Department of Health. Designed and published by Sound Publishing, the free guides will be distributed to libraries, senior centers, government facilities and clinics throughout the Snohomish County. An electronic copy of the guide can also be viewed at http://snohomishoverdoseprevention.com/treatment-and-support/.

Businesses and agencies interested in receiving copies of the guide for their clients can email opioids@snohd.org to arrange for pick-up.

For more information on efforts being done through the Opioid Response MAC Group, please go to www.snohomishoverdoseprevention.com. This website and accompanying social media accounts were developed to be a one-stop shop for resources. Whether trying to understand the problem, prevent addiction, or save a life, this is a place to find information for that first next step.
