In 2007, Lynnwood was chosen as our second Healthy Communities site. In the following months leaders engaged in the process
of developing the city's action plan. By May and June of 2008 the Action Plan tour, a series of presentations to local
stakeholders, garnered further community interest in Lynnwood Healthy Communities. In September Lynnwood Healthy Communities
hosted an implementation kick-off event, highlighting work to date and the completion of their Nutrition and Physical
Activity Action Plan. The kick-off jumpstarted the prioritization of activities as committees begin working to implement
the actions specified for three areas:
- Increasing the Number of Active Places (e.g., changes to the built environment to make walking and biking easier) [pdf]
- Creating and Sustaining Healthy School Environments [pdf]
- Increasing Physical Activity Opportunities [pdf]
This work will form the basis for long-term and sustainable policy and environmental change to promote healthy living in
Lynnwood. As implementation moves forward, Health District staff will work closely with the implementation teams to develop
measures for success and pursue funding to support this important work.
