Established by the Omnibus AIDS Bill (ESSB 6221) passed March 1, 1988, the Regional AIDS Service Networks are
"the official state regional agencies for AIDS information, education, and coordination of services."
The Region 3 AIDS Service Network serves Island, San Juan, Skagit, Snohomish, and Whatcom Counties in the
following capacity:
Develops regional plans for provision of HIV/AIDS related services;
Monitors and distributes funds to local health departments and other organizations
Provides technical assistance;
Serves as a resource center;
Represents the region at the state level;
Facilitates communication and coordination within the region;
Provides HIV/AIDS partner notification and disease investigation services
The Region 3 AIDS Service Network provides staff support and technical assistance to the Region 3 AIDSNET Council
and the Region 3 HIV/AIDS Community Planning Council. The AIDSNET Council is comprised of the leaders from each
of our jurisdictions who implement local public health activities. The Planning Council is a self-governing
regional planning group comprised of volunteer community members. They conduct the federal-mandated community
planning process for establishing priorities for use of public HIV/AIDS grant funds and assure broad public
input to public health. Persons interested in volunteering to serve on the Planning Council should contact
the Region 3 office for further information and to request an application packet.
