The Region 1 Public Health team is comprised of a Regional Emergency Response Coordinator, an Epidemiologist, a
Risk Communications Specialist, 2 Health Educators, 1 Strategic National Stockpile Coordinator, and 1 Office Assistant.
We are Snohomish Health District employees, funded through a federal grant to work with all public health agencies within
the Region 1 area. Region 1 includes Island County, San Juan County, Skagit County, Snohomish County and Whatcom County.
Our Goal
To develop collaborative partnerships with response agencies throughout the Region to better prepare for any large-scale
public health emergency. Collaboration will occur through identification of agency roles, continuous education and training
and appropriate delegation of resources and personnel.
The mission of the Snohomish Health District's Regional Emergency Response Program is: To protect the health of the
public and limit the transmission of communicable disease by disease identification and investigation.

May 18, 1980 remains a vivid memory for millions of Washington’s residents as the day that Mount St. Helens propelled
volcanic ash skyward to an altitude of 80,000 feet in just 15 minutes. Volcanic dangers include not only an eruption
and associated lava flows, but also ash fall and lahars (volcanic mudflow) and can disrupt our lives, our state’s economy,
and entire regions of our nation.
