Oral Health Program > Information for Dental Providers Working in Snohomish County Schools
In April 2001, Washington State Administrative Code (
Access to dental care for children ) was adapted to facilitate school based dental services for high-risk children by easing
supervision requirements of dental providers. Specifically, the legislation addresses the credentials of dental providers and the
legal necessity of supervision for non-licensed staff while providing dental sealants and fluoride varnish in school settings.
This new legislation requires dental providers approaching schools to work in coordination with the local health jurisdiction and
local oral health coalitions. In Snohomish County, these entities are Snohomish Health District (SHD) and the Snohomish County Dental
Access Committee. SHD chairs the Snohomish County Dental Access Committee.
