Gary M. Goldbaum is Health Officer of Snohomish Health District, serving the 670,000 residents in Snohomish County,
Washington. He accepted leadership of Snohomish Health District in February 2007.
He has worked in family medicine, epidemiology, and public health since 1978. A graduate of University of Colorado
School of Medicine (1978) and the University of Washington School of Public Health and Community Medicine (1989), he
is certified by the American Board of Family Practice and the American Board of Preventive Medicine.
Dr. Goldbaum held positions as an academic researcher at the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the
Washington State Department of Social and Health Services, and Public Health - Seattle & King County. Dr. Goldbaum's
numerous journal articles reflect his interest in chronic disease, injury, infectious diseases, and the behaviors
that place people at risk for disease.
He was the Health Officer for Thurston and Skagit counties (Washington state) from 1987 to 1989, and directed the
University of Washington Preventive Medicine Residency from 1992 to 2002. During his time with Public Health -
Seattle & King County (1989 to 2007), Dr. Goldbaum directed the HIV/AIDS Epidemiology Program, was the Chronic
Disease & Injury Control Officer, and was the Medical Director for the HIV/AIDS Prevention Program. From 1989 to
2007, he also saw patients at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
Dr. Goldbaum holds appointments as Associate Professor of Epidemiology and Adjunct Associate Professor of Health
Services and Family Medicine at the University of Washington.
He enjoys backpacking, bicycling, skiing, and running - and tries to commute twice a week by bicycle and bus to
Everett from his home in North Seattle.
