Permits

Do I Need a Permit?
The Snohomish Health District issues permits for solid waste disposal sites and handling facilities in Snohomish County. The types of activities for which a solid waste permit is required are listed below:

Facilities that handle solid waste
  • Transfer stations
  • Baling and compaction systems
  • Drop boxes
  • Material recovery
  • Moderate risk waste

Disposal sites
  • Inert waste landfill
  • Limited purpose landfil
  • Mixed municipal solid waste landfill

Other facilities
  • Composting
  • Land application
  • Energy recovery and incinerators
  • Piles used for storage and treatment
  • Surface impoundments and tanks

Contact the Solid Waste & Toxics Program for any questions concerning the permit application or the application process. Permit application forms can be requested at any time.
