Recommendations to eliminate the transmission of Hepatitis B virus infection in the United States found in the
MMWR December 23, 2005 / vol. 54/No. RR-16, include suggestions that states and localities establish case- management programs.
In the early 1990's, Washington State began developing strategies to improve the outcomes for identified infants through several
key components of case-management.
Key components:
- Test all pregnant women for hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAG)All pregnant women should be screened for HBsAg during each pregnancy.
- Complete the hepatitis B vaccine series.
- Monitor and evaluate the case management program.
Snohomish Health District has developed tools to assist the case manager.
