Business Waste

Many businesses in Snohomish County use chemicals or other hazardous products and therefore generate hazardous waste.  Hazardous waste can include waste from auto repair shops, schools, dry cleaners, dentists and many other industries.  These hazardous wastes must be handled and disposed of properly to prevent contamination to our environment and injury to people. Our health ultimately comes from our environment, including clean water, air, and soil. Snohomish Health District works to preserve these important elements for everyone’s benefit.

Local Source Control

To protect and restore Puget Sound and the surrounding watersheds, the Puget Sound Partnership was formed in 2007. The Department of Ecology and Snohomish Health District work with businesses to help avoid contamination, reduce impacts from storm water pollution, and eliminate potential sources of toxics and hazardous wastes. We conduct technical assistance visits to businesses throughout Snohomish County. During our visits we will survey your current business practices and provide you with information and technical assistance in the following areas:

  • Stormwater management
  • Hazardous waste management
  • Solid waste management, reuse, and recycling
  • Pollution prevention

These visits are generally non-regulatory. If areas in need of improvement are noted, we will send you a letter detailing activities you can implement. We are also available to provide follow-up support when implementing changes. Complex or large scale improvements may involve the assistance of other agencies.

Protection of Puget Sound now will help keep this precious resource for generations to come, especially from a public health and environmental viewpoint. If you have questions about our business assistance visits please contact the Solid Waste and Toxics Program.

Business hazardous waste disposal

Businesses who are small quantity generators (less than 220lbs. per month) of hazardous waste may dispose of their waste at the Snohomish County Moderate Risk Waste (MRW) Facility.  There is a fee associated with disposal and appointments are required.  Please contact the MRW Facility at 425.388.6050.
