The School Health and Safety Program conducts periodic inspections of K-12 schools
(public and private). These verify compliance with minimum health and safety standards for
educational facilities, as per WAC 246-366-040. The School Health and Safety Program
reviews plans and conducts preoperational inspection of new and remodeled schools.
The School Health and Safety Program also investigates complaints of unsanitary or
unsafe conditions at schools.
Before a new school facility is constructed, or an existing school facility is changed,
a review of the school plans is required.
Before construction for an alteration or remodel of an existing school, plans must be
submitted with a plan review fee.
After the school is constructed, periodic inspections will be performed and School
Inspection Fees assessed.
The Snohomish Health District a conducts investigations of unsanitary and unsafe
