Death Certificates

The Snohomish Health District’s Vital Records office can provide certificates for all deaths occurring in Everett from 1953 to the present and for deaths in the rest of Snohomish County from 1960 to the present.

The Washington Department of Health’s Center for Health Statistics issues certificates for all deaths occurring in Washington from 1907 to the present.

Cost of death certificates

The cost is $20 per certificate, payable by cash, check, debit or credit card.

Note: There is an $8 charge for records that are searched for and not found, as allowed under state law.

Information required for a death certificate copy

  • First, middle, and last name of the deceased
  • Date of death (or 10-year period to search)
  • City of death

How do I order a death certificate?

By mail

Send a completed death certificate order form with a check or money order payable to "Snohomish Health District" or "SHD" to:

The regular processing time is two business days plus mail time each way.

Online

Go to VitalChek to order a death certificate online with a credit card. Credit card orders are processed the fastest. The credit card processing fee is $13.50.

You can expect your certificate in approximately 2–3 business days. UPS delivery is available at an additional cost.

In person

Visit the Snohomish Health District, where you can fill out a death certificate order form, pay the required fee (cash, checks, credit and debit cards are accepted), and pick up your death certificate copies immediately.

Issuing hours are 8 a.m.–4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Please arrive no later than 4 p.m. to begin the death certificate process.
