Food Managers

The Snohomish Health District offers manager training to ensure that our community stays healthy by keeping all food establishments up to date with the ever-changing food environment and sanitation regulations. 

State food regulations require that at least one designated person in charge (PIC) – a manager, supervisor, or shift leader – be present during all hours of operation for food establishments. The PIC must be able to demonstrate a knowledge of the food code and safety principles.

We offer a state approved Manager Certification class. This certification meets the PIC demonstration of knowledge requirement. A manager recertification class is also offered. Our classes help ensure compliance with food safety critical items and best practices.

Topics covered include:

  • When to exclude sick food workers
  • Proper cooking, hot-holding, cold-holding, and cooling of potentially hazardous foods
  • Preventing cross-contamination
  • Personal hygiene and equipment sanitation practices

Manager certification

Successful completion of the intensive manager certification course qualifies you for a 5-year food worker card. Classes are scheduled twice a year, typically in March and October. You must be able to attend both days in the series.

Food manager certification schedule

The series of manager certification classes are held on Wednesdays from 9 a.m.–2 p.m on the following dates:

  • March 7 &  14, 2018*
  • October 3 & 10, 2018*

*Completion of the series includes a 2-hour test scheduled the following week, by the instructor.

The class fee of $200 includes all materials. Class fees are refunded less a $22 processing fee up to a week before the class. Another person may be substituted for the original registrant at no cost.

Manager recertification

Manager certification expires after a 5 year period. At that time you are eligible to take the manager recertification class. This class will extend your certification for an additional 5 years and qualifies you for a 5-year food worker card. Classes are scheduled twice a year, typically in March and October.

The manager recertification class is held from 10 a.m.–1 p.m. on the following dates:

  • March 28, 2018
  • October 24, 2018

The registration deadline is the Monday prior to the class. To apply, return this Food Manager Course Application (PDF).  

The class fee of $150 includes a text book, or $90 without a text book. Class fees are refunded less a $22 processing fee up to a week before the class. Another person may be substituted for the original registrant at no cost.

Curso de Certificacion de Gerentes

Manager’s Certification Course in Spanish

La serie de clases de Certificación de Gerentes en español se llevan a cabo los miércoles de 10 a.m. a 3 p.m. en las siguientes fechas:

  • Abril 4 & 11, 2018
  • Septiembre 5 & 12, 2018

Temas a tratar:

  • Actuales problemas de la seguridad alimentaria
  • Causas de los brotes de enfermedades transmitidas por los alimentos y como evitarlas.
  • Proporcionar alimentos seguros de la granja hasta la mesa.
  • Técnicas practicas para capacitar a su personal y obtener el máximo rendimiento de sus inspecciones.

Beneficios del curso:

  • Obtenga una tarjeta de Certificación de Gerentes de 5 años.
  • Aprenda como conducir su auto-inspecciones.
  • Sea elegible para el programa de auto-inspección y reducir la cuota del permiso de operación anual para su establecimiento hasta un 25%.

Costo: $200. Esto incluye el costo de los materiales del curso y el libro de texto.

Politica de rembolso: Rembolso en su totalidad, menos $22 tarifa de procesamiento hasta una semana antes de la clase. Otra persona puede ser sustituida por el registrante original antes de la clase sin costo alguno.
