Potential risk of exposure for unvaccinated people at locations in King County
A measles infection in a Snohomish County infant was confirmed February 21, with potential exposure locations in King County at Sea-Tac Airport on February 19 and Seattle Children’s Hospital Emergency Room Lobby on February 20.
Additional information on exposure locations and times, as well as guidance for anyone who may have been in those locations at those times, is included in the January 21 press release.
This is a good reminder to verify that children’s immunization records are current and that the children in your child care are up-to-date on immunizations such as the MMR vaccine that protects against measles, mumps and rubella.
You can direct parents and guardians to https://wa.myir.net or to contact their medical provider to get proof of their child’s immunization status.
Also, please consider reminding parents and guardians that vaccines are provided at no cost to all kids through age 18. If a health care provider charges a fee to give the shot, parents or guardians may ask to have it waived if they cannot afford it. By law, no child can be turned away from getting a recommended vaccine from their regular health care provider because the family cannot pay. Get help finding a health care provider by calling the Family Health Hotline at 1-800-322-2588 or visiting www.parenthelp123.org.
