Health and safety during flood season

flood water

Heavy rain and high rivers have caused flooding recently in Snohomish County, and flood season is not yet over.

During a flood, it’s important to remember to heed road closed signs, stay out of floodwaters by car or on foot, monitor weather and emergency reports, and have an emergency plan in place if you live in an area that is impacted by flooding.

It’s also important to be safe after a flood. This includes ensuring that you have clean water and that you take care of backed-up septic systems. Even after flood waters recede, there can be hazards to your health if you don’t address concerns such as contaminated wells or damaged septic systems.

Information on sanitation after a flood event is available at www.snohd.org/flood-sanitation. We also have a guide on cleaning up after a flood, available here.
