Most drownings preventable, says Child Death Review team

Supervision, signs & swim lessons can keep kids safe around water

SNOHOMISH COUNTY --- Each year at least one child drowns in Snohomish County, say health officials. Making this sad statistic even more tragic, Child Death Review (CDR) teams in counties across Washington state say 70 percent of child deaths by drowning are preventable. From 1999 through 2000, drowning was the third leading cause of unexpected death among children 0 – 17 years in our state, following vehicle accidents and Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). Clearing the air: Parks in Granite Falls go smokeless, May 17

Mayor DeRosia to present proclamation to Snohomish Health District

SNOHOMISH COUNTY---Kids in Granite Falls will play in air made fresher by the city’s new “Tobacco-free Park Policy” effective May 17. Mayor Floyd “Butch” DeRosia will declare the city’s parks smoke-free in ceremonies beginning at 11 a.m. in Jim Holmes Park, 206 South Granite Avenue, Granite Falls. Public health investigating local foodborne illness

More than 60 Everett restaurant patrons ill

SNOHOMISH COUNTY---Snohomish Health District is investigating reports suggesting a viral foodborne illness among patrons of an Everett restaurant. As of April 12 about 85 individuals had been interviewed by the communicable disease section of the Health District.
