Mumps and Flu Cases Continue in Snohomish County

Recent death of Everett teen linked to flu-related complications

SNOHOMISH COUNTY, Wash. – While the first day of summer is just around the corner, cases of influenza and mumps are continuing to pop up around the county. New lab results also confirmed that a male teenager from Everett died from influenza B on May 25, bringing the total number of flu deaths in Snohomish County to 45.

New Opioid Data and Strategies Rolling Out in Snohomish County

Multi-pronged approaches are key to turning the tide

SNOHOMISH COUNTY, Wash. – A recent report issued by the Washington State Department of Health (DOH), in collaboration with local partners, highlighted the growing problem of fentanyl and other synthetic opioids in Washington. Of the 70 people that died from overdose after using Fentanyl or similar compounds in 2016, Snohomish County’s 11 deaths represented the second highest total in the state.

Troubling Mental Health Trends for Snohomish County Youth

Healthy Youth Survey highlights where prevention efforts and conversations are needed

SNOHOMISH COUNTY, Wash. – Data released in March from the 2016 Healthy Youth Survey showed Snohomish County youth are making smarter, healthier choices when it comes to substance use. Unfortunately, those promising trends are not seen in results relating to youth mental health. Snohomish County data shows 22.7% of 12th grade students said they had seriously considered suicide within the last year, nearly double the 11.7% reported in 2006.

2016 Health Champions to be Recognized

SNOHOMISH COUNTY, Wash. – In conjunction with this month’s Board of Health meeting, the Snohomish Health District will recognize agencies and businesses in its 2016 Health Champions ceremony. The meeting will be from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 9 in the District’s Auditorium located at 3020 Rucker Ave, Everett, Wash.
