Six new members welcomed to the Board of Health

Snohomish County’s Health Board oversees the policies and budget of the Snohomish Health District

SNOHOMISH COUNTY, Wash. – Ready for action, six new members raised their right hands recently and vowed to serve on the Snohomish County’s Board of Health. One was sworn in at the December 2013 meeting, four in January this year, and one in February. The 15-member board is composed of the five Snohomish County Council members, and 10 elected officials representing the county’s 20 incorporated cities and towns.

Big jump in gonorrhea cases among Snohomish County residents

Take it seriously – if untreated, you and your partners could suffer long-term physical harm

SNOHOMISH COUNTY, Wash. – The number of gonorrhea cases in Snohomish County increased dramatically in the past year. The case total for 2012 was 168, and the number rose to 249 in 2013 – a nearly 50 percent jump. This is the highest incidence of gonorrhea in the county’s history.

Flu claims life of Snohomish County resident

Flu shots work to prevent illness – lots of vaccine available in the county

SNOHOMISH COUNTY, Wash. – Snohomish County’s first confirmed flu death of the 2013-14 season has been reported to the Snohomish Health District. A Bothell, Wash. woman in her thirties died from influenza complications on January 4. She had underlying health conditions, and passed away in a King County hospital.

Fend off the flu! H1N1 is here, but so is vaccine to fight it

Plenty of vaccine is available from local providers & the Snohomish Health District

SNOHOMISH COUNTY, Wash. – Influenza is spreading rapidly in Snohomish County.  Local health providers report a significant uptick in positive flu tests in the past two weeks, and many of the sick are people younger than 65. Seven local people died of the flu during last year’s flu season.
