Influenza claims three lives in Snohomish County

Vaccination is the best protection against this severe flu; plenty of vaccine in the county

SNOHOMISH COUNTY, Wash. -- The Snohomish Health District reports three residents of Snohomish County died in recent days from the severe flu that is circulating throughout Western Washington. A Bothell woman in her 40s, an Everett woman in her 80s, and an Edmonds woman in her 80s died in late December in Snohomish County hospitals. All had underlying medical conditions. Read More >>

Everett Community College earns a Healthy Workplace Award for going tobacco-free

Snohomish Health District commends the school for nixing all tobacco use at its work sites & on campus

SNOHOMISH COUNTY, Wash. The Snohomish Health District today presented its Healthy Workplace Award to Everett Community College (EvCC) at its Board of Trustees meeting. The award honors businesses, agencies, and other organizations that have adopted 100% outdoor no-smoking grounds or tobacco-free grounds policies in addition to compliance with Washington’s Smoking in Public Places law (RCW 70.160).

Tips to avoid mosquito bites – and the diseases they carry

West Nile virus found in 2 Washington counties; none in Snohomish County

SNOHOMISH COUNTY, Wash. — West Nile virus (WNV) has not shown up in Snohomish County so far this year, but elsewhere in the state it was found recently in mosquito samples in Yakima and Franklin counties. The virus in humans is a large problem elsewhere in the nation this summer, with 14 deaths and more than 1100 illnesses reported by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
