SNOHOMISH COUNTY, Wash. – During its regular board meeting, the Board of Health will hear the first reading of the draft pharmaceutical stewardship ordinance and the annual state of the district, followed by continued discussions of the proposed transition of WIC and First Steps services to community partners. The meeting will be from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 10, 2016. The meeting will be held in the District’s Auditorium located at 3020 Rucker Ave, Everett, Wash.
Dr. Gary Goldbaum, health officer and director of the Snohomish Health District, will release the 2015 Annual Report in conjunction with his State of the District presentation. Those interested in the State of the District, but unable to attend, can watch it live on Periscope. A link will be provided via the District’s Twitter account @SnoHD prior to the presentation, with a recording of the presentation and link to the annual report shared on both Twitter and Facebook later that evening.
The Board of Health previously requested feedback on pharmaceutical stewardship policy options during a public comment process from March 25-April 15. Comments received were shared with the ad hoc committee for consideration when drafting the ordinance. Tuesday’s board meeting with include the first reading and public hearing, with an anticipated vote on the ordinance in June or July.

The Board of Health held an expanded work session in March to discuss the proposed transition of the District’s WIC and First Steps services to community partners. While such programming will always be an essential need in the community, WIC and First Steps are no longer services where the Health District is uniquely qualified, nor are they aligned with the future vision of public health in Snohomish County.
This meeting will continue those discussions, with a vote anticipated on Tuesday. The transition plan addresses WIC, First Steps, and Healthy Starts—the District’s new model for improving the health of infants, children and families throughout our community. This approach is consistent with aligning our resources where public health is uniquely qualified, and identifying ways that the Health District can affect the greatest good for the greatest number of people in Snohomish County.
