SNOHOMISH COUNTY— The menu includes a healthier dining environment at 385 restaurants throughout Snohomish County, say the authors of the current Smoke Free Dining Guide. The 12-page booklet is co-produced by Snohomish Health District and Tobacco Free Snohomish County Coalition.
Cafes, bistros, burger franchises and fine dining establishments from Arlington to Woodinville now offer a breathe-easy environment for their patrons.
“In order to be included in the dining guide, a restaurant must be 100 percent free of tobacco smoke in its entire inside area,” said M. Ward Hinds, MD, MPH, head of Snohomish Health District. Excluded from the guide are restaurants that permit smoking in adjoining bars.
“Secondhand smoke is a firsthand cause of cancer and heart disease,” said Dr. Hinds. “I commend the participating restaurant owners and managers for their leadership in our communities.” The Health District currently is surveying all restaurants in Marysville about their interest in offering smoke-free dining.
