Board of Health Meeting, Dec. 12

Public hearing, adoption of 2018 budget to be focus

SNOHOMISH COUNTY, Wash. – During its regular board meeting, the Board of Health will hold a public hearing and is expected to take action on the 2018 budget. The meeting will be from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2017. The meeting will be held in the District’s Auditorium located at 3020 Rucker Ave, Everett, Wash.

The 2018 budget proposed is a reflection of the new direction of the Snohomish Health District as the community Chief Health Strategist. This includes investing in state-of-the-art business practices; analyzing new sources of data; moving toward cross-jurisdictional sharing where appropriate; continuing pursuit of FDA retail food standards; preparing for Public Health Accreditation in 2019; launching a new strategic planning process in 2018; and continuing the District’s opioid response.

The $17.8M budget maintains current staffing levels, with the following exceptions:

  • transitioning 3.0 FTE from Information Services to Snohomish County’s Department of Information Technology through a negotiated contract;
  • adding an epidemiologist which will be almost entirely funded by local and regional contracts;
  • adding an environmental health specialist in the Food Safety Program to improve the establishment-to-inspector ratio as the Health District pursues FDA voluntary food retail standards; and
  • assuming control of the AIDS Outreach Project/Snohomish County Syringe Exchange effective January 1, 2018, including its two employees.

More details of the budget can be found in the 2018 Budget-in-Brief, and associated division revenue and expense details.
