Ebola & Obesity

Action requested:  Be aware that Ebola monitoring is continuing only for travelers from Guinea.

Background & Recommendations:

The World Health Organization has declared Sierra Leone as an Ebola free country, leaving only Guinea as a country in which Ebola remains a significant concern.  Public health will no longer monitor travelers from either Liberia or Sierra Leone.  Although this is a major step towards containing the epidemic in Africa, clinicians should still be alert for travelers from Guinea who present with fever or other symptoms.


Action requested:  Take advantage of useful free clinical reference tools to support management of obesity.

Background & Resources:

Obesity affects more than a quarter of our adult population and over 10% of youth.  Given the significant complications and costs of obesity, effective management is critical.  The American College of Preventive Medicine (ACPM) offers a range of free educational materials for physicians and other medical professionals to promote understanding of evidence-based treatment options for patients with obesity.
